My old man's birthday falls right after Jesus'. My granny told me that he was actually supposed to be born on the 25th of December, the day she went into labor, but because my grandfather was MIA, my dad would not come out.
My sister and I woke up quite excited about our father's birthday, we ran upstairs hoping to find him on his laptop drinking a glass of juice (or beer, depends on the day), having woken up at 5am desperately waiting for us to get our shit together so we could leave the gem and explore more of Cape Town's beauty. To our disappointment, he had decided to sleep in late.
When he eventually decided to come downstairs, we had already prepared breakfast and my aunt had come over to spend the day with us. I finally felt better and had prepared a cute outfit for the day, but the weather would not agree with me, so I took a black jacket to lightly drape over my shoulders.
Routinely, we headed to V&A Waterfront hoping to board a ferry to Robben Island, but the operators of the tourist attraction said that the weather was unfavorable to make the half an hour trip to the island. The waves were threatening to make us all take our last bows and exit this journey called life. My mother was quite disappointed because she really looked forward to the trip, so we rescheduled for the 28th of December, crossing all our fingers and toes hoping that we would be able to make that trip before we go back home.
We then headed to Table Mountain, hoping to get a cable ride to the top, but when we got there, it was completely closed due to the weather. My aunt then suggested that we head to the local township of Gugulethu to get some freshly braai'd (sp) meat. We tried to go to a popular braai destination (Mzoli's place) but it was closed. Then we finally discovered another place which had no name, but visibly delicious looking meat. I didn't even have time to take pictures of this meat when it came. We all just devoured that meat as soon as it came into the car.
After dropping my aunt off at her place around 19.30pm, my dad did not want his day to end yet, so we headed back to .. yes, you guessed it, V&A waterfront. My dad was the only one who was hungry, I just wanted a sweet dessert to deliciously tantalize my gut flora, so we headed to LA PARADA. They served me a MARVELOUS cookies and cream dessert. I'm not really one for sweet treats, but I found myself ordering a tall glass of hot chocolate immediately after the dessert. Once again, I didn't even think of taking a picture of this. I was completely terrible with taking pictures on this day. My apologies.
When the clock struck 00.00am, we headed back to our little gem and slept the braai'd pork, beef and cookies and cream dessert off.
