I really do love Cape Town, everything is just fresh and clean, but what is it with the bipolar weather? Day 2 started off as a grey and cold day. What surprised me the most was that the sky on the one side of the house was grey and cold, but step on the other side and you’ll find yourself being baked by the sun with a stunning view of a crisp blue sky decorated by white cotton candy-like clouds. I unfortunately had to ditch my cute sundresses and shorts and wear leggings and a sweater.
We decided to drive around the city for most of the morning, passing by places like Simon’s Town which had some of the biggest houses some people can only access through magazines and those house-parading TV shows. I aspire to own one of them one day, it will generate some income for me.
We stopped at a picnic area located along the coast called Oudekraal. I’m not sure what we were expecting to see there since it had started drizzling, even the security guard questioned our intentions as we were driving in and paying the entrance fee. We basically used the area as a spot to separate, take beautiful photographs and think about our poor decision-making skills. We left the place within thirty minutes and headed to Camps Bay beach which was not too far from the picnic area.
The water was COLD! I’ve been to both Durban and East London’s beaches, but my feet did not experience such a shock. It felt like someone had decided to pour some ice into the ocean water. See my mother is not a fan of the sea, or any place that has large volumes of water. She goes to the beach only to put her feet on the dry sand and admire the waves, from a distance. My sister and I were playing in this cold water and we could see that every time the waves would come towards the shore, they were covering a greater distance and reaching the dry sand. Unfortunately when my mom wasn’t looking, a wave suddenly hit her feet and BAM!, typical of a diabetic, her foot started itching to the point where my dad had to pick up a shell and scratch it for her. We first suspected that she was reacting to prolonged hunger, so we headed to Ocean Blue for a late lunch.
I ordered king prawns and calamari. What a meal! The image of food you will see was not what I ordered, that was my sister’s food and yes, we had to organize the table before taking that image, who doesn’t do that nowadays? It’s all about the aesthetic.
Guess what we did after eating? Back to V&A waterfront to waste more time. That was it for day two.
